Red-hot blues
Laurie Morvan's sultry style rocks Arcadia Blues Club
By John Sollenberger 06/04/2014
The blues turn red hot Friday night when Laurie Morvan pays a visit to Arcadia Blues Club.
Morvan's stepfather was a big music fan, and she grew up in suburban Chicago surrounded by a variety of sounds. She picked up a guitar one day and as a child came to love the blues the most.
Morvan played professionally in college and after graduation moved to LA to work in the aerospace industry. At the same time, she began playing in a rock cover band and music quickly became the consuming aspect of her life. She left her day job and began playing full time, performing blues and Southern rock.
Her popularity grew as she began writing and recording her own music. The rising star began releasing CDs that gained critical acclaim and performing live in a charismatic style, one that led to a Blues Foundation Award for Best Self-Produced CD in the 2010 International Blues Challenge competition.
Since then, she's followed a busy schedule performing at shows and festivals throughout the United States and Canada, where she's earned accolades for her sultry voice and fiery shows. Visit her at lauriemorvan.com.
