Laurie Morvan Band: Breathe Deep (Screaming Lizard Records)
Morvan’s Strat continues to be as at home on a Texas shuffle on pop-based soul. She manages to spice up slow blues on “It Only Hurts When I Breathe,” and her punchy soloing is right on the mark for the funk of “Mojo Mama.” Morvan’s soulful playing is the perfect complement to her bar-ready R&B. – JH
