Article Text

"In a field dominated by men, women guitar shredders are coming into their own, among them blues singer Laurie Morvan, whose band sets up shop Friday at the Arcadia Blues Club.

When it comes to singing the blues, think Stevie Ray Vaughan mixed with Bonnie Raitt. And this lady lets it rip loud and proud. The tall, blonde and blue-eyed Morvan plays guitar with much the same confidence and power found in her singing — and backed by a crew of today’s top players.

Morvan’s latest CD, “Cures What Ails Ya,” boasts some killer musicians, as does her band. Jazz piano great George Duke, Bonnie Raitt bassist James “Hutch” Hutchinson and Grammy-winning drummer Tony Braunagel all contributed their talents to the disc.

Sexy and talented with lots of attitude, Morvan will put on an in-command performance making the drive to Arcadia well worth the trip.”
